I have been reading on this very closely now. I am currently running windows 7 EE on my home computer and about to upgrade my server to Windows Server 2008 R2 to test this out. Direct access does require IPv6 running on client computer and on network edge server. You must have windows Enterprise or ultimate edition of windows 7 for this to work. Over this weekend I will be setting this up and seeing if I can get this to work with my server and sharepoint server.
