in the summary section of my resume, i start off with "x years of being awesome" (in a nutshell). should "x" be the number of years documented on my resume or the number of years total; including IT jobs that have fallen off the bottom because they were (a) on a different career path (i.e. sysadmin vs. developer vs. management) or (b) not significant enough in comparison?

Never count yourself short, esp in experience. I would include them, will help to show how versatile you can be.

Your experience makes you valuable. I would include all pertinent experience. You may want to write your resume for a specific position. Take the job description and write your resume around it.
