Posted about 1 year ago I have a PC. However, when I was younger, around 1990 or so, I had a MAC. I absolutely loved it. I still like it better than PC from what I remember of it. Anyways, I just want to see what you all out there use and/or prefer? Sound off and provide your reasoning. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Machines are machines. Parts are parts. Users screw them up. I get paid. That's all I need to know. |

| Posted about 1 year ago EB3 said: Nope. Although Uncle Bill has actively made me more money than cousin Steven has. The last major WinXP exploit there was... I forget its name now...was like August 03 or 05 maybe... anyway... I have a huge roadsign.... after four weeks of increasing business due to this exploit, I had to pay homage and put "Thanks for all the business Bill!" out on my sign. People came in just to ask who Bill was, I explained, subsequently I had even more business because these people wanted us to check their computers just to be sure they weren't vulnerable. :) I do have to say the Mac thing makes a tech look pretty cool though. Best jobs I have had were to network Macs... easiest jobs in the world if you ask me...out of the box anyway...they do it all themselves...which means I can set things up, wait a half hour and get lunch and have a smoke...then turn on the router and everything works. Get paid...Leave... it's nice. I very rarely have MAC service calls though, to be honest. But this is the same answer I give to all these types of questions. I was at another computer shop the other day repairing one of their laptops...(don't ask me why a pc repair shop can't fix their own laptops) but anyway...a guy asked me which pc brand I was partial to... same answer...machines and parts...makes no difference to me...everything is made in China anyway. That answer did not go over well with the HP-Partial Geekery they worship in their labs though :D Here's an image for ya... I make no other comment about it... Last very successful Windows/PC Network/Tech/Engineer I met drove a new Ferrari. Last very successful Apple/Network/Tech/Engineer/Person I met... drove a rusted out VW Rabbit. You do the math ;) |

| Posted about 1 year ago Well, if you let current events sway your vote then Apple and Microsoft seem to be suffering a bit. Maybe the answer is to get a PC, strip out Windows, and boot up with Linux! |

| Posted about 1 year ago Great response Magi. Its good to see that Bill keeps your business running strong. From reading your article it made me think of the Maytag commercials where they guy is just sitting around all the time. Well, once I can get together enough doe, I think I might purchase me a mac. Till then, I will be accepting paypal donations. LOL, :o) |

| Posted about 1 year ago I like the modularity of Macs, and since they've changed their OS to UNIX-based I feel better about them. Mac's old OS was a pain. Anyone ever figure out what an Error Type 1 was? |

The use of intel was a great move by Steve Jobs to get me to think about buying a Mac though. The unix based os is a plus as well.
In the end I am still strattling the fence. Both have thier pro's and con's. I personally am just more acustomed to PC's.

| Posted about 1 year ago I'm a custom PC lover. If I don't install my own parts in the system then I don't appreciate the computer. Now, a Mac is great for Multimedia freaks and i appreciate that. at this time tho I use Windows XP, Vista, & Linux tho. I have 9 PCs tho. |

Pretty funny video related to the question.
Vista/Ubuntu dual boot all the way! Vista is nice for games and general browsing; Linux is good for programming/feeling tech savvy. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I'd prefer PC because of the way the parts are installed and the user friendlyness of it, but MAC's aren't all that bad. just different... very different. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I think I'm with magi on this one. They really are all made in china anyway. even HP, for that snoody hp geek....I KNOW. I used to work a project on HP notebooks. and speaking from one who took both training on pc and notebooks, why couldn't the repair shop fix their own notebook? that's a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moment if I ever saw one. As for personal use, if I wanted something for myself.....well basic machine-wise, I'd say pc with windows 2000 64 bit, and service pack 4 (not to be confused with service pack 3), with 1.8 processor & 4 gigs. If I had money to play with, though, I'd want a 3D Boxx Workstation with animation programs to create my own AMVs. "And in the naked light I saw

| Posted about 1 year ago I like pc's because I like to work around all the problems and issues they have. But, I to work on both and like to get paid. MACS are easier to work on and the software is pretty straight forward. Bottom line is I LOVE COMPUTERS! |

| Posted about 1 year ago Honestly, I prefer the PC architecture. I haven't bought an off-the-shelf computer since 1987, and - unless it's a laptop - have no intention of ever doing so again. I build all of my own, and others for friends and clients. That way I know that it has exactly what I need, and nothing else, inside the box. Try getting that with Apple, Dell, or HP. Not gonna happen - no matter what they say in the ads, if you want a certain CPU you have to buy a "package" to get it. No thanks. Now if I actively hate proprietary bizness in my PC, what do you think my opinion of Mac is? At present my system consists of three tower units - with 7 HDs between them. One all Windows (XP, 2000/NT, 98SE), and one all Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, SUSE), the third is my network server with Ubuntu Server Edition on it. Each of the OSs has its own HD, and never the twain shall meet. I troubleshoot for a client list that uses any one ( or a combination thereof) of those operating systems. Since about 1/3 of my consulting is done remotely I have to keep a baseline reference for each OS. You may have noticed there is no Vista - and there never will be. I've worked on it, and I hate it with a passion. When called for Vista problems, I tell them point blank - "Switch to XP or Ubuntu (preferably the latter) - I refuse to work on that garbage!" I haven't worked to any extent with an Apple since the days of the Apple IIe. That was enough to turn me off for good. I've tinkered with the early Mac's, but never lost my distaste. Now that they've sold out (yes you heard me right) and gone over to the dark side (Intel), I REALLY have reason to stay away. It's a pity they put a UNIX based OS on such a weak-kneed platform. An AMD - heck, even a SPARC! - would have served Apple far better. OK, I've had my rant... next? |

| Posted about 1 year ago The best machine to use is the one you build yourself. you could look at it from a lot of angles but in the long run which on will do the job you need it to do for the least amount of money. Or if you have an unlimited amount of money whats the best you could or have built. I spent 2,000 on my computy 4 years ago and to have one built like it today would cost nearly 5000. subtract inflation that's still considerably less. Plus I have the satisfaction of knowing that I put together something I understand and don't need to rely on corp. junkies to charge me whenever I need servicing. Therefore I prefer PC's over Mac's. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Barebones kits are the way to go. Macs have great GUI's PC's make me non-expendable since they always break. Linux is fun. I'm more of a command line guy myself. All in all, I stick with PC's. But I agree that Mac's are simple to network. Hurry up TigerDirect...I thought my barebones kit was supposed to be here today :-( |
