I used nothing but MacOsX at home. Being a UNIX freak, I jumped all over MacOsX since the beginning. It is the only thing I use for my personal life and home businesses.

I have a Mac Mini and a Mac Powerbook Laptop, my wife has a Mac Mini as well.

One word: SOLID.

Duo Core 2 @ 2ghz, 3 gb ram, 300 GB storage locally, 3 TB storage via Lan. 2x20 inch monitors.

It's a bit excessive, but I figure it'll last a few years this way with few changes.

I have a crappy Dell - but I'd love to upgrade to a nice new gaming laptop - maybe Alienware or something. Could someone maybe recommend a good gaming laptop?

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz

Memory: 2 GB

Video: NVidia GeForce 8600 GTS

Audio: Built-in High Definition Audio Device (Surround)

Hard Disk: 300 GB

Add-ons: Built-in memory card readers

Monitors: 1 Dell HD 19-inch and 1 Dell HD 22-inch (Dual monitor setup)

I am looking to put together a new gaming rig at home:
Here's what I have come up with:

AMD 64X2 6400+ 3.2Ghz
ASUS M2N-SLI AM2 NVIDIA MoBo
2Gig Crucial Ballistix DDR2
GeForce 8800GTS
250Gig SATA HD.

Any opinions / criticism?

These guys make good gaming systems. They are eexpensive though. When I build a gaming system, I speck one out on their website first and then start reviewing components.

I recommend building a custom system. I have few dells too.
They are not bad at all if you set them up correct. Make sure they give you the proper internals for adding things like harddrives. etc..get plenty of ram and I mean at least 2gig. A high end video card is also very useful and dual cpc is good too. Above all, a nice large monitor thats not going to fry your brain is an absolute must for extended computer use. A nice motherboard would also be a good idea for you hard core gamers like myself. I don't think you'll find a really good laptop for gaming because of the high heat buildup common to these. A big problem with some of these..

Can't believe I haven't answered this one already...

Home desktop:
Core 2 Duo E6600 @2.4GHz.
4GB DDR2 800
750GB HD
passive-cooled GeForce uh... I think it's a 7600 GT
Antec Sonata Solo
Still sticking with XP

Living room PC:
Pre-Intel Mac Mini hooked up to the HDTV, and using a Keyspan remote receiver to let my Harmony Remote control it as an MP3 server.

Work laptop:
Previous-gen MacBook with less HD space than I'd like and 2GB RAM.

The desktop? I've done some Web design on it and quite a lot of gaming. Occasional video encoding. IIRC, that box did OK running the Crysis demo, but I've mostly returned to my Civ 4 addiction lately.

I almost went crazy with my rig but I told myself that I just surf the net, make videos (healthy, good wholesome vids), use photoshop.  I also just play strategy games.  Other than that I dremel the hell out of old cases and make case mods.
