| Posted over 2 years ago Microsoft will target Windows Power Horn, I hope that this make a difference with all the other windows, there is always going to be hackers and spammers around the word and the browser is always going to use html,xml and so on... until somebody comes up with some bright idea and cure the problems that we have with windows but that somebody sees that he/she is not making any profit out of it he/she will sell his/her idea to everybody and another problem will show up. The people that make virus, the same one make antivirus to make money, those who make spam also make antispam and so on... Time will predict how are we going to end up with Windows and other Operating System. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Open source would obviously be beneficial to end-users and certainly lower development costs, but Microsoft has always preferred to have control over its products direction, so such a thing would not be a likely move. |

He did say that it’s clear that software is going to see what he called community innovation. | Posted over 2 years ago This could be a good idea. However, Ballmer also was quoted as saying that he believes some users of open source should be paying Microsoft. I don't see how you can have this cake and eat it too. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Don't hold your breath. If you've ever seen any of his keynot speeches on video, Balmer is a psycho. I wouldn't expect him to do anything that he didn't think was aligned with the best interests of M$. M$ has always been closed as much as possible. Short of them loosing massive market share, I don't expect them to do anything significant to change their business model. |

| Posted over 2 years ago One day I think it will be a "service world" in software land. More applications will become services and the major o/s's will become open source.."community driven". It may not be that microsoft just wakes up and says let's go open source...I think they will be forced into it. Within the next ten years someone is going to come up with something that will make M$ move this way. I can see it coming. And with that...and the next generations coming and more companies who have been resisting computers, networks and change are going to do or die and that's about it. More IT jobs :) Especially in networking, infrastructure and programming. |

| Posted over 2 years ago I dont believe in open source. Never have and probably never will. The world simply does not work that way. When someone do a good enough product it wont stay open source for long since a company simply will buy that product and take it off. Seen that happen way to many times with people who said they would never sell out their open source products but when a company suddenly comes along and offer them like 10-20 millions for that little neat plug in they have written they are not so die hard open source anymore. What I do believe in is free software for everyone but companies though. Open source isnt really a battle but piracy sure is and its a battle they are loosing fast. On the other hand that could in the long run lead to open source since noone will develop new products anymore the old fashion way since they wont get paid for it so who knows? |

This will not happen. Microsoft may take things that are open source and "re-invent" them. But Microsoft will never go open source, because their is more money to be made if they keep it proprietary software and its support.

| Posted about 1 year ago Windows going open source???......impossible........Windows itself is a synonym of money......its prime aim is earning profit than considering the customer satisfaction.,......Also wy do we need windows as open source wen a great treasure of open source softwers are available most of wich are way better than windows...... |

| Posted 10 months ago Look at it from the other end. If Windows was Open Source, people would be improving on it. Would there be just as many people attacking it or would there be an increase in Mac attacks even though it is Unix based? |

It would be far more likely a different OS like linux will steal the crown from microsoft that is allready Open source & free..
Microsoft would be slitting there own wrists going open source because there rivals would suddenly know how to make there OS's 100% compatable with all microsoft software & soon afterwards there will be do need for Mircosoft anymore.

| Posted 3 months ago Open source is stiffening the competition and microsoft arent spared either. open source making their products free is bad for microsoft but its even worse that some of their products are customizeable.Ofcourse clients want to go for something that can not frastrate them in financial terms and complete customization to their organizational needs.Just a matter of time and microsoft might re-think their marketing strategy

| Posted about 1 month ago I just loaded it up on a dummy pc that i had lying around, considering that its still beta, its pretty damn good, I was able to run all the windows software that i normally do. definitely gets the job done. I suggest you all try it, the GUI could look a little better, but if what your into is performance and not looks, this is definitely a good find.
