Intel's looking to use some magic technology to prevent video game cheating. But can cheaters really be stopped?

nope.. cheating (whether its video games or poker..) will never be stopped.. because there's that challenge aspect to coders and hackers and programmers.. the challenge of 'beating' something.. not necessarily winning.. but being smarter about manipulating technology i guess...

I used to play Party Poker - and the amount of good hands made me think that the whole thing was rigged. But then again - since it is electronic, I see way more hands then I do when playing live.

I also hear that those poker sites have bots that just bet the odds and the money goes back the game.

... I need to stop playing online poker... :)

It's a constant battle..... One side finds a way to Keep the other side out, and then the otherside finds away around the defenses..... Though it gets harder and harder to get through, the "cheaters" get better and better...not only that but I noticed cheaters like to brag about there accomplishments and let the "less-experienced" take advantage of there discoveries.... Hackers or like a gang of thieves ..... Old school thieves..... XD ... Sort of.

But there's always a back door.

Cheating could be stopped and it starts at the programmers of the game.  If they build a solid infrastructure, then yes, cheating would stop.  It is true that something needs to happen fast because along with cheating, there are also piracy going around with a lot of gaming companies are removing standard PC franchises to the consoles (i.e. Crysis, Crytek said any other game coming from them would go to the consoles due to PC piracy).  Of course tho,  MMO(RPG)s are still going to be on the PC and they cannot do it on a console yet (successfully).  And strategy games which is always an epic fail on consoles.

Does using cheat codes to have millions of dollars on Sims 2 count?  Or adjusting the clock on my XBOX360 so that I earn hundreds of thousands of dollars off my properties on Fable 2?  I know, I'm horrible.

But I do it with a smile! :)

The cheats on console games are put in by developers as a choice for those that play the games. There are some instances where someone will find a glitch and exploit it. Cheats like that have happened through xBox live and are fixed through upgrades when the developers discover them, but until that happens people take advantage of it. It's a lot easier to cheat through a pc game than it is through a console game, but it can be done.

I have used some of the cheats for my xBox360 and for my Sims 2 game, so I guess I am just as bad, LoL.

The forgetful fishy........I think??!!??

Most games are designed so cheats only work outside of Lan & online games..

So people still do find ways to cheat online tho, Using Bots extra.. But there is software to catch them & if they get caught they are normally warned once after that there serial key is banned from playing online with..

Cheating in online games like Counter-Strike, America's Army, Starcraft, WoW will more than likely never stop. A few years ago Valve intorduced VAC2 to their Steam distribution system that supposedly was the "end all" to hackers, but it only lasted a week.

The game developers can only go so far into cheat detection and prevention before it becomes a prvacy issue.

Cheaters will always find a way. The companies are doing a great job coming up with ways to help the problem but it will never be completely stopped. There will always be glitchers, hackers, modders, etc that ruin the games for everyone else. I have nothing against single player cheats. If you want to cheat to beat your game that's your deal but when you start doing it in multiplayer environments it drives me crazy. There's nothing like getting killed in CoD by someone who's glitching under the map with a modded controller

Poker cheating?? I wasn't there... It was somebody else's deck, I was just holding it...

Who have you been talking to?

These aren't the droids you are looking for.

Your mouth to God's ears...

I am die hard COD player (xbox handle: BullRoar See ya online!) and I frickin hate it when ppl glitch... I can do it, but what the hell is the point? I usually just give the old "Prefer NOT to play with this noob" button a click...

Outside of that... It is just a game (yeah like baseball, talk to Manny Ramirez bout that one).
