How do you relax?

Posted 19 days ago All of us know how stressful our jobs can be at times, no matter what the job is. My question is how do you choose to relax and de-stress? I used to, on the weekends, either go boating, scuba diving or flying. I don't do those things anymore sadly because the friends that I went boating and scuba diving with have drifted apart and the friend I used to go flying with has simply dissapeared of the face of the Earth. Now days I have a couple of drinks at the end of the day and this helps me to unwind from the daily grind to trying to find work. So what stress relieving activities work for you? |

| Posted 17 days ago I sort of have this ecclectic collection of things to help me unwind. I enjoy High Energy electronics, so sometimes I come home and plan/build a next version of "the bigger and better" Tesla coil. I too, like SCUBA but alas, I've dived pretty much all the places to see in Utah so that is a much more difficult hobby to play with. We have horses, so sometimes I just go spend time with them or with the dogs. There's Mountain Biking. If you ever really need to unwind, just go get exhausted somewhere in the hills overlooking the valley. Often, we'll sit out by the fire and just watch the stars (obviously a telescope helps here). Perhaps I need to unwind from my hobbies. |

| Posted 17 days ago Sounds very relaxing sitting out under the stars. Also, I would love to have a horse but can't do it at this time. Like you, I have SCUBA'd to the point I really don't want to anymore. It sounds like where you live has a lot to offer. Yes, we have the beach here, but it is geared during the evening hours to the younger party crowd. I do like hiking. The North end of the county has some good hiking areas. |

| Posted 17 days ago Hiking is good. I used to do a LOT of that. But the other half is so busy of late, that we don't get out that much any more. In fact, one of our first dates was a hike. I used to use the hike to weed out potential partners. I just couldn't see myself NOT hiking so I had to know that they enjoyed it as much as I. Now, it's more of a combo, hiking a bit and riding the horses. One can see a LOT more territory on horseback, not to mention a LOT more wildlife. The smell of the horses hides the smell of the humans on their backs, so wild life is considerably less fearful. Rides tend to take more preparation though, so again we are relegated to less frequently. |

| Posted 17 days ago I used to rate my relationship over a camping trip. Horses are fantastic, I would love to have one. My idea of a great morning is when there is an early morning dew on the ground and me walking in the pasture over horse dung; a walk in the roses to me. Unfortunately between this lifestyle and my technical lifestyle have turned many people off. |

| Posted 17 days ago Yeah, my other half is NOT at all enthused about my techy side. Although, she does admit it comes in handy from time to time. Like getting her set up for teaching her classes. She now has a projector, sound system, andd laptop (super media version) and suddenly can't see herself teaching with out. |

I built a shuttle many years ago. It's in a very sad state of disrepair right now. I have a couple more unbuilt. One of them will be docked with my space station model when I finally build it. There are three kits of the space station that I know of. None are very accurate. They're kind of expensive and you need to do a lot to them to make them look good. I have the one produced by Revell of Germany in my pile of unbuilt kits (which is extensive). Pat A. CompTIA A+ It Technician

| Posted 16 days ago To Pamaral: Cool. If you get one perfected, take a pic of it and post it. To Moldy: I had the same problem in my past. My now ex's didn't like it when I was in law enforcement and when I changed career paths, they didn't like it when I had some tech stuff. I actually had one GF, now ex, come over to the house and when she saw my office with the multiple computers she said that she didn't think it would work out because of my technical interest. Then she said she was 'suspicious' as to why a guy would have so many computers and be living alone. I hope her meds kick in soon. |

| Posted 16 days ago reading/writing. unfortunately I havent done a whole lot of that lately what with the wiggle child keeping me on my toes. also, I have this habit (childhood leftover) of drowning everything out when reading. cant do that these days with so much going on. I stick with short stories now. Mostly I just watch my child play/sleep/anything, or play video games to relax these days. I also pet my cat. there are 4 cats & a dog in our house. I guess I also kick a ball in the back yard for the dog sometimes to relax as well. funny story, I didn't realize how little news I watch until this halloween when we had to switch the clock back- I had no idea it was halloween for the daylight savings time this year & thought at first everyone was trying to pull a prank on me. | Posted 15 days ago Same here Barry. To Checkel, Sounds like you are really busy. I don't read much, not married, have any kids or pets. Awww, the total solitude, the bliss of being alone. I mean that too. Sleep when I want and do what I want, but why the hell did I get up at 4 a.m. on a Sunday. As for Holloween, I had no little visitors at all this year.

| Posted 15 days ago Pat, it would appear that you don't "TAKE" too much time to relax. You need to work on that 'pile' of kits. Steve, Yeah, finding the right woman is sometimes quite the feat. But, lest I leave the wrong impression, mine doesn't necessarily think it is a BAD thing, simply doesn't share/understand my enthusiasm. She is almost a technophobe, but is working on it. She leaves me to my passions and all is OK. I try to share in hers, which is why we have horses. She trains horses, teaches riding, and in general loves 'em. With several national titles under her belt, who am I to get in her way? Barry, I too use this venue, to some extent, to relax and enjoy the comradery (sp?). Funny, I almost forgot to add it to my list... the relaxed atmosphere and friends... |

| Posted 15 days ago ZeroDay, I plan to build up the Station/Shuttle project either late next year or 2011. I'm planning my ultimate hobby bench/workshop which will go somewhere in the house we're hoping to buy sometime in the Spring/Summer. We're in an apartment right now and I just don't have the space to do it right. Besides, I have a few other modeling projects in work right now. But it's on the list.
Moldy, The "pile" is a perpetual work in progress. Every time I make a dent in it, I find several new kits to fill the gaps back in. Most of the modelers I know have "stashes" of kits. The vast majority of us have so many we'll never complete them all in our lifetimes. My other excuse is I start a new job tomorrow. I won't know for a while what my actual schedule is going to look like. Pat A. CompTIA A+ It Technician
