I thought that this would be an interesting experiment/game. I know everyone enjoys technology, so here is a chance to comment how the systems from the simple to complex could be used to do the same job. Note, this is not a class project or work related project in anyway. Just thought that it would be interesting to see how others would build a web site, database driven system.....be it used for manufacturing, computing, RFID warehouse tracking, etc.....built on proprietary pay, or freeware sotware systems and peripherals.......hopefully, you get the idea. From cheap to expensive.....Managed Service Provider to Internet Provider..........anything.

You could even mention the types of servers and hardware systems, if you are getting technical. Will post mine after I see some others. Want to compare before possibly affecting any others.

NOTE POLL: You can mention which type of OS sytem that you prefer in a reply, and why you prefer it in and of itself or compared to something else, if you like...............whatever. :)

For an OS I would go with a Linux flavor, I haven't recently checked them out but I have used Red Hat in the past and I liked it.  I would try to keep the costs down and go with as many open source software packages that are compatible, it would have to play nice with others. I like Adobe CS best for web site design.

I guess that I didn't realize how many CS suites Adobe markets.

MySQL would probably be a good contender for a database that would work well with a Linux distro to keep costs down.

Sorry I could find this again,

I found out from someone else that preferred Ubuntu? I'm not sure of the spelling but its a free version of Linux.  He said it is really good I can't remember who posted it.  My Sql is a good choice.  For browers and mail I would go with the Monzilla, sea monkey (mail) and filezilla for FTP.  I'd look at open source for the equivalents to Word and the office stuff.  And I found a good photoshop equivalent in GIMP its open source.

Linux is the kernel, GNU the userland, X the interface, etc.

I'd stick with what I have, maybe a different architecture.
