Posted 3 months ago Hello all,
I just graduated from Keiser University there year in 2009 with a A.S computer science degree, Computer Networking & Security Management. according to what I have just read in the It Advise article " First Steps into IT: Recommended Certifications" I fall into what the authoer describes as year 2001 certs. I have an A+CompTIA- IT Professional cert. that apparently means nothing. I'm working at a call center at the moment doing advanced tech support. But I'm trying to get my foot in the door at any It dept. here in South Florida. after reading this article , i'm almost heart broken. I have learned alot, but according this article highschool kids are expected to have my knowledge. I have 5months now to get a real IT job and be able to afford better things, and repay some student loans. I planned on get my B.S. after I start gettting working in the real IT field, and hopefully for a company that will help pay for additional certs. Is this a pipr dream. Did I do something wrong. I really dislike my call center work. I have and I'm still applying for junior administrator jobs in south FL, and entry level jobs. Is my only having A.S. and A+ not enought to get my foot in the door?
PS. If your in south FL and looking for a hungry IT professional. pls let my know |

Posted 3 months ago The IT community isn’t what it used to be. Depressed economy, graduates flooding the job market, businesses closing down. Certs are great, but there is no substitute for experience. Don’t quit your day job. Keep sending out those resumes. Miracles do happen

Posted 3 months ago I am going to try and hold on to this job. I might also look at some IT temp services I see online, but I dont trust temp agencies that much.

Posted 26 days ago I have NEVER had an I.T. job that didn't first start as a "temp" job. Use recruiters and headhunters. And also, all of my jobs were found through monster.com.

Posted 26 days ago The economy is indeed tough. I have been out of work for just over three months. I have used and am using Monster and CareerBuilder but have had no positions open in my area. I don't know what part of South Florida you are in but here in NW Florida jobs are really scarce. I have sent out resume after resume and am only being offered sales jobs not even associated with what I am trained to do. Just keep plugging away as something is bound to turn up.

Posted 25 days ago Ok well I live in South FL. I followed your advised and used a staffing company. I got a new job doing active directory maintenance, but the pay is the same as my last job. Which is fine because I would have worked for less to get out of that call center lol. anyhow I know my staffing company is getting a thier share of my pay. so hopefully after a few months I can get hired right the the company themselves , then i beleive my pay will be alot more comfortable.

Posted 25 days ago Great. How long did it take you to get the job from the staffing company? I have a staffing company up here that I applied with and they haven't found anything yet after 3 months. Good luck.
