Posted 6 months ago Just wondering who out there has tried Windows 7 Beta. I haven't had the opportunity to yet, mainly because my pc isn't strong enough. Ever since the first time I used XP Pro I have not looked back. I don't even like XP Home! I am leary of trying Windows 7, for two reasons. One, will it be worth my time right now, and two, I will have to put some bucks into my pc which I don't have. I understand we need to advance with technology. I will get around to all of that when I have the funds to do so. What I would like to know, honest opinions here, do you think it is worth it? The forgetful fishy........I think??!!?? |

| Posted 6 months ago Just like XP is what ME should have been, and 98 is what 95 should have been. I wonder why Microsoft is so adament about pushing out something that is not ready to be out there? Money, I suppose. Get all those people to get new pc's, then a year or two later get them to do it again. By most people, I am meaning the general public who just go out and get the whole thing at once, instead of upgrading. The forgetful fishy........I think??!!?? |

| Posted 6 months ago Here, use this utility to see how far off your system is from running win7: I've actually been using win7 as my only OS since RC came out. I don't like XP 64-bit and I just got a Phenom II system. I kind of wanted the OS to see and use all 4GB of RAM (adding 4GB more soon). I've had to rollback a driver and do a system restore once so far, but that was more my doing than the OS itself. Only trick is not all anti-virus programs run on win7, but a quick Google search will show you what's out there already. |

| Posted 6 months ago I ran the check. I need more ram (I have one gig), my sound card is not compatable with it, and a few other programs. My anti-virus cleared the check (it's avg). I would also need to do a custom install and back up my programs and then reinstall every thing. I have too much stuff on this one to do that. So my ventures in to Windows 7 will have to wait until I have a clean pc with more ram : ). The forgetful fishy........I think??!!?? |

| Posted 6 months ago I think the checker is expecting the user to want to use Aero. I'm pretty sure if you turn Aero off you'll be fine. Considering win7 build 7000 runs on an Aspire One netbook with Aero ON, you might not have a problem. |

| Posted 6 months ago I've been using 7 for close to 6 months now. I just installed RC a few days ago and the performance shows. Here is a website that will show you the comparisons between the systems. http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=3789&page=2 You should be fine with just a gig of ram but the true performance will be after you upgrade. This article covers that in more detail. Note: if you want to test the beta, you have to do a fresh install. If you are upgrading from XP when 7 is released, I believe you have to purchase an additional package to do the converting to 7. |

| Posted 6 months ago I am ready for windows 7. I have 7 rc 1 and like it. Just like I posted about Vista the test OS. 7 is and will be everything we wanted in a OS. I love the fact about XP virtual mode, I dont care for Virtual PC but oh well I dont have to use it. BRING ON 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Posted 6 months ago @mwgosc: XP mode is good for what it is. I use it to remote login to work as our VPN client isn't win7 ready. It takes a bit to load but that's with any virtual OS. Keep in mind if you do want to try it after release, you'll need a legit XP key and whatnot to use XP mode. |

| Posted 5 months ago My current systsem is too old for Xp let alone win 7. I have not set aside a budget to upgrade my system. Why make Microsoft execs richer when their lower paid employees get the shaft? I say let them sweat for a while instead of jumping on the bandwagon and going straight win 7. Give XP/Vista more time to mature. To me, since all MS OS are from the same company, they are virutally the backbone of each other with added features or other glamorous clout. I predict that the Mac, UNix, and Linux will soon make its way to the desktop scene in 20 years. Although MAc is already in the desktop/laptop market, unix/linux has longer to go before it can overtake MS Windows Operating Systems. Even though I'm more a MS Windows guy I think we all fell into it by default because it is the most user friendly system that was well marketed. Vong Thieu Do

| Posted 5 months ago XP will always rule supreme in my book. However, for games XP is locked into DirectX 9 and I find the DX10 hack to be crap at best. There isn't anything wrong with that but some of the newest graphics engines want what DX10 has to offer (and soon DX11). |

| Posted 5 months ago Next time when I have to purchase a operating system I plan to get WIndows 7, Currently I am using XP because I have a license for it... I Am currently waiting for Windows 7 to be fully released & prehaps for the first service pack to come out & for the price of Quad core CPUs to come down.. Currently using Duel core 2.20 ghz
When I upgrade I believe I will be entitled to purchase Windows 7 at the OEM price if I purchase at the same time, which I think is less then 1/2 the retail price buying straight from the shop |

| Posted 3 months ago I just read an update on Windows 7. It appears that it is faster at boot up than Vista or XP and has more security features ans is expected to be released on October 22 with starting price tag of $199 for the Vista Home $110 for the upgrade. It is said that some online retailers may sell it for $140. Vong Thieu Do

| Posted 26 days ago I tried the beta and liked it. Vista came on my new laptop (not qualified for upgrade program.) Yesterday, I got Windows 7 Ultimate, and tried to upgrade from Vista. There were 3 incompatible programs that had to be uninstalled before upgrading to Win7. I opted to format and install Win7, then re-installed my software. All software installed successfully, including the previously incompatible software.
