First car at age 16: 1961 Ford Galaxie Sunliner, ripped out the 292ci & auto trans and replaced it with a 409ci & 4 spd, royal blue with white inserts

1956 Austin Healey 104, just a 4 banger but it was cute, candy apple red with a tilt down windshield, the girls loved it

1961 Corvette, blew up the 327ci and replaced it with a custom 427ci L-88 rated at over 500hp, tell ya more later

1970 'Cuda, 340ci, 4 spd., canary yellow with black 340 markings, blew this engine too, couldn't  find a 340 or larger and ended up with a 318 so I sold it

1975 Trans Am, 455ci, 4 spd, chrome Hooker headers and side pipes, white, blew this engine ( man, I run my cars too hard ) dropped in a 400ci & sold it.

2000 Mustang GT convertable, 5 spd, Thrustmaster exhaust, red with saddle interior, totaled it and walked away.

Not a single complaint.  Its a great truck, I'm very happy with it.  (By the way, its the 6-speed manual transmission model)

It sounds like a better choice compared to a "Hemi" orientation.

Well, the Hemi is a great engine, don't get me wrong.  It has a bit more horse power but much less low end torque and towing capability.  A big benefit of a deisel engine over a gas engine is longevity.  The cummins will last 500K miles or more with very little problems.  Some have even made it to 700K or more.  Also I can get about 22 MPG on the highway where the Hemi will get 16-18 at very best.  On a full tank of fuel I have a 700 mile range. :D

*Drools at the Dodge Ram"

I used to have a Dodge Ram, just a small one, but I Loved the way it handled, and looked.

Yeah, I like 'em mean!

My first vehicle was a '78 International Scout Traveler. Pearl white, leaf over, chrome bumpers and wheels. Nice tall skinny tires, whites on the inside, dark tint on windows. It had what was called the midas interior. Swivel bucket seats in the front, bucket seats in the back, sitting on the floor so you had a very bumpy ride, and an insulated cooler between the back seats and drained through a tube going through the floorboard. 4x4 automatic, on the floor. Weighed over two tons and would go over or through anything. Got an average of 11 mpg, and that was highway miles! Hard top was removable as well (yeah, that was fun in the summer!)

Even though it sucked on gas and was as aerodynamic as a brick, I still Loved my scout.

Lets see, When I was in the auto transport business I had a Ford F-350 super duty crew cab with the power stroke desiel engine. Man that was a nice truck.... had more than enough power to pull the four car trailer fully loaded with full size pickups, just sucked fuel.

I had a 69 camaro, put a 454 in it that pushed 600 horses. Got a little crazy one night dragging it on a country road and rolled it 3 times...ouch..... two years building it, 1 night to destroy it.

I was in love with my Triumph Spitfire, but I had to leave her behind.  Someday, I will have my midlife crisis and get a TR-6 to rebuild and play with (after all, they ARE British Leyland).  I also really liked the Smart Car I had in Germany and Luxembourg.  So, I guess you can see that I like little cars.  The Spit was a great car - you know, they aren´t muscle cars, they are for ralleys - try to get from point A to point B in 23 minutes, and to C in 35, etc.  Nothing like a small car where you are sitting on the ground to give you a feel for the road.

Lmao d0ti5, that's why I don't like little cars, feels like my butt is dragging on the ground. Plus I am tall, and a big girl, I don't fold well. I like a car with a bit of muscle behind it, maybe intimidating as well. The right vehicle, with the right set up, will hug the curves and let you feel the road. I used to have a Chevy Silverado, extra cab, that was like that. I loved the way it cornered. For a long pick-up (obviously had a long bed) it handled better than some smaller vehicles I have encountered.

My '56 Austin Healey was LOW. The exhaust was less than 3 in. off the ground. I was always knocking my muffler off. I liked that it was close to the ground but it just didn't go fast. The windsheild would tilt down flat like a jeep and then you could get bugs in your teeth, that was always fun LOL. I should have chucked the 4 banger and dropped a 327 in there but I had my eyes on a Corvette.

Diesel is also more eco-friendly than Gas (about 30% less carbon dioxide and almost no emission of carbon monoxide), that could be a real sweet combo to have hybrid wth cummings.

OK, mz_dori, veering off topic like when I hit sand in the corner (very bad for the suspension, I can tell you...):

Oh, sure, muscle cars are all fun - I remember doing 147 mph down Wadsworth Blvd in my friends Chevi in the middle of the day.  But, still, low, flat cars can be fun - who wouldn't want to at least try out a Shelby Supercar:

SSC

Running up to 255 mph, that has got to be a blast.  Or, how could you pass up a Acabion...

Acabion

...a vehicle that at 110 mph is twice as efficient as a high-tech diesel compact car? Or another that achieves 280 mph with just 50% throttle?  With a 750bhp, turbocharged Hayabusa engine that is capable of hurling the bike down the road at 340mph with a 30 second 0-300mph acceleration time—and, amazingly, that speed is capped. If all of that wasn't eye popping enough, the bike is also fuel efficient. It can get 100mpg at 100mph and 25 at 250.

But my new favorite has to be this GM/Segway 2 seater concept:

Project Puma

Sure, it looks like a trash can, but the Project P.U.M.A. (Personal Urban Mobility & Accessibility) prototype, is a two-passenger version of the famous Segway which can reach speeds of up to 35 mph and last from 25 to 35 miles on a single charge.  That is too geeky NOT to love.

Anyway, back to your regular programming...

LoL MChristophe, with the bicycle. Silly man.

d0ti5, sometimes it isn't just about speed. You have to have a vehicle that can handle anything that you can dish out.

The faster isn't always the better. Can you handle it if it gets out of control at 155mph? That takes a lot of skill and great

dexterity. Which is something I don't have, LoL, the fishy doesn't have good reflexes. So, I will stick with something that I

know will stick to the road, hug them curves, and feel safe at the same time. Ha, no, the fishy doesn't drive like Grandma,

just drives with the knowledge that I am responsible for all life around me, not just my own. Speed is good, but speed, safety,

and controlability are a must.

Well, sure - as the man says, "My Mazarati does 185, I lost my license, now I don't drive...

I would be more likely to go with the Segway (35 whole miles per hour), or a Smart car, something small, fuel efficient and green.  But, I am pretty much a suburb kind of guy - been a while since I drove to the coast (any coast is far from Arvada), or had to haul a few tons of anything.  It does come down to the right tool for the right job.

I am reminded of my buddy, who, while driving a Ninja motorcycle at 168 got dive-bombed by a bird.  Almost an ex-friend that day.  I was able to total a car while only going 25 - telephone poles are hard.  Anyway, I have a daughter, so now I have a chauffer...

That's what you need, it is hi-tech, it is eco-friendly (diesel), fast (V12 TDI), does 24mpg, and one the best handling (4 wheel drive) German ingennering can make.

Sorry MChristophe, but I have a problem with a car that has tires so thin if you got a flat, how would you know? Lmao. Nah, I don't like them scratching my butt on the pavement. Of course I do like going off-roading, so a nice four wheel drive is more my style. The meaner the better, : ).

I have an another point concerning sport car, they got seat for skinny people and this break my ...back!! US road are sometimes not well taken off, also, some people don't realize this, but SUV or CrossOver are really good deal someone.

It is a shame Jeep stop built the minimal size vehicule like they did the CJ5 or CJ7, they were great, but the Wrangler is less good IMO, is this your type of vehicule ?

'66 MGB that I restored.

'82 Porsche 911

'94 GMC Yukon to which I added a blower, a 4" lift, and 295's all around.

'03 Corvette Z06 - stock.  It's fast enough.  (On the other hand a blower would boost it to ~540 bhp.)

Dude, if I put a blower on the vette, it'll make some noise.  The Vortech blower I had on my truck screamed like a banshee when it was spooled up.  She'll notice.

I have a bad habit of taking what is already good and trying to make it better.  My wife knows this and since she is the current main (only) breadwinner, I've got to be nice even it it makes MY TEETH ITCH.  LOL

The stock '94 Yukon was fine the way it was and did its job which was to take us camping, skiiing, and haul the occasional load.  But I couldn't live with those skinny 265 tires, so I did the 4" lift to squeeze 295s in.  That made the truck a bit sluggish so the Vortech blower and Thorley tri-Y headers went on.  Also, the stock brakes didnt' work as well from the lift, so I added after-market discs all around.  Then for some bling came the grill guards, side rails, etc.  Also, to improve the handling, such as it was, I added a larger anti-sway bars front and rear.  I'm sure I forgot something.  (Damn, I could use that cash now.)  But it was fun for about 10 years.

I'm sure Psychologists have a name for this kind of behavior.  Crazy!
