Don't ya just despise that customer that ALWAYS calls during your lunch break? Its like they are lurking in the shadows waiting for you to take your first bite of food before they blow up the phone. Why do they do that? Are they just THAT inconsiderate or completely clueless?

Yes, I do take into consideration that sometimes users do not know you are on lunch, but common sense would tell you if it is 12 o'clock then more than likely someone is eating. What really irks me is when people call and you say "Ill get to that in a minute when I finish my lunch." or whatever, and they comment that it is a critical. Then when you get to their office it was something that could have waited 15 minutes.

Damn skippy!  And it seems the ONLY time the phone wants to ring off the hook is when you're trying to eat!  And it's funny when it's your supervisor, even though you just walked by her office with food in your hand.  When I used to work in a cafeteria, we closed at 10 am to get ready for lunch.  We'd all be sitting there, eating, doors to the cafeteria closed, and people would walk right by us, open the door, and start helping themselves.  And this was EVEN THOUGH everyone knew what time the place closed, and they'd SEE US sitting there, and they didn't care.  People are selfish.  And inconsiderate.

If you are a customer service rep then technically you have no predetermined lunch break (eat when you can, the customer comes first). I guess it could be that they are calling on their lunch break as well, I do not think anyone wants to have to call you when you are busy, and are waiting to pounce on the opportunity to disrupt some of your down time. You could just unplug the phone while your eating. The customer, in the eye of your employer, is always right, never inconsiderate, and always clueless (if they were not clueless why would they need to call you).

I often eat at my desk and it obvious that I am eating...because, well I'M EATING. That does not stop people from walking up and drilling me about why  their pivot tables do not work. My biggest pet peave is when I walk through the front door in the morning and before I get a chance to get to my desk, take my coat off, put my coffee down, and log in, people are stopping me to ask me to help them. We use a helpdesk ticket system but for some reason people think they do not have to use it. It's not for them, it is for other people. Does this happen to anyone else? How do you get users to submit work orders? I try and try and try but people just do not seem to get it. The department head doesnt seem to do anyting about it and I am afraid I am going to "go off" on someone soon. The ticket system we use is Trackit!. Last week a user walked up as I was eating lunch and said "My email doesnt work". My response was "Does Trackit! work"? He said yes and I just looked at him with a blank stare...which seemed like minutes until he finally said. "Oh, we want me to submit a work order???" ...like it never occured to him.

Yea, Amy and I use Trackit! where we work.  We get the same problems.  People will come into our office with a problem, and sit down and wait until we finish it, like we have nothing else to do.  People tend to watch over our shoulders and expect us to put them first and foremost.  These are the people who hold their heads up so high you can count their nose hairs.  They're that stuck up. :)

We use TrackIT here as well. Are you sure you don't work with me and Paula? LOL It sounds like a typical day at my office. The easiest way I have found to get people to put in work orders is to say. "Yes I will take care of that as soon as you submit a work order." then proceed to give them directions on how to submit one. Eventually they will realize that they need to submit the ticket before they get help. But we still have those who come in and start chatting with me when  i am in the middle of my lunch, with a mouthful of food and crumbs on my shirt. I just want to punch them in the face and be like "Do I come in your office while you are eating and try to chat with you? I didn't think so!

You know how I get around this "issue?" I leave the building EVERY DAY at lunch time.  Four days per week, I go to the gym to help work off some of that stress that comes with all those "shoulder taps" (that's what we call it when a user requests our help directly instead of calling the Help Desk), and the fifth day, I go to the library, where I can read ANYTHING other than a computer book, LOL.

I don't care HOW busy I am, or HOW many things I have on my plate, I look forward to that one hour of peace and solitude more than any other time of the day (besides "qutiing time," that is, hahaha)
