OK...so....I have also been a Facebooker for a long time....I joined as soon as it was open to people other than those with school affiliations.  It started out as a totally "people you know only" sort of thing...no random folks could even ask you to be friends....I remember when I received my first random request...I spent a week trying to figure out how I knew the guy!

It's a lot different now...anyone and everyone can decide that they want to add you as a contact for any random reason you can think of....but you still have the option to decline if you like....

My Facebook profile is pretty specific...it is only friends, co-workers and relatives....I don't use or display any of those weird little app things...(only POKES :)  ) and my content is totally geared toward connecting the people that I work with and know with each other, using my page as the jump off place...I currently have about 200 contacts and they are linked in almost 900 ways....so I guess it is working

Do you Facebook?  How do you use it?  Having this kind of publicly accessible site...as a support person.....good or bad?  Would love to have you share and comment.....

I facebook to have a place for family and friends to review pictures and other details of what's going on in my life.  Sadly, only one of my family actually has me listed as a "Friend".  Tells you a lot about my life. :-)

As for the other apps, I don't have them, didn't know about them.  I'm not the type to go out and get random folks to list me as a friend.

The other option for Facebook is employer review.  I actually had one review my facebook to try to get an idea of what type of guy that I am.  So Employee Beware....

Absolutely great point!   I see too many youngsters that I have as friends with the photos of parties and other debauchery that they would definitely NOT want to have considered as part of their evaluation for job-worthiness....

I just started facebooking a couple of weeks ago.  I've already been in touch with a bunch of old friends through facebook.  I notice my family members but I don't add them.  Nothing wrong with them but some I'm not close to for reasons.

I just joined last week to see some photos a colleague had posted of a works night out a few months ago.  I wish I hadn't, as I don't take a good photo and it was before I started to lose weight so I look like Peter Griffin's (The Family Guy) brother!!!  However, I'm now addicted chatting to friends online, cheaper than phoning them.  My only worry would be if an employer judged me by my facebook page as I see it as somewhere to let my hair down and joke around with friends in private, which is why I don't make any of my information public.

However, I'm now addicted and have even gone as far as buying a Samsung NC10 netbook (two hours ago) so I can log in while relaxing on the couch!!!  OK that isn't the real reason, I've been wanting to buy one for weeks.  Definitely money well spent, going to get wireless broadand and Skype so much better than sending text messages from a cramped mobile and I can roam the web during lunch.

But back to Facebook, wish I'd joined earlier, was reluctant because of the risk of identity theft if you give too much information away, but if you limit it to physical friends that you know you can't go wrong.

I joined Facebook a couple weeks ago because one my sons had a page there. It was a way of keeping in touch with him because he is in NC and I'm in FL. I think the apps are cool! I have been able to get in touch with friends that I have lost contact with and talk about the good ol' days. It's a great way to network. I've also posted links to my other businesses there as well. I have 2 home based network marketing businesses. One is for air/water purification systems and the other is for a dietary supplement that drastically improves your immune system. Yes, this is a plug. Is that allowed here? I guess I'll soon find out...

I started using it because a coworker wanted me to see his profile but I had to create a profile. Slowly I added a couple friends and started using it pretty regular. Since then I've connected with friends I'd long lost contact with. It's a great tool for that. Beyond that I don't really use the apps, but I get sent things from other people.

I don't have facebook but I do have a my space page. The reason I started it is because of my daughters ages 14 & 17. I use it to keep an eye on them and to kinda have an idea of what is going on in the teenage world. In their school there has been several cases of text and cyber bulling. (One situation ended in a suicide) I can watch for this with my kids and also help them sensor themselves as to what they say and how it is said. I also use it to keep in touch with my 3 older daughters. One of which is in another state at college. I have it private so I'm not to worried about a potential employer seeing it but I try to teach my children by example and not put anything on it that isn't appropriate for people that do not know me very well to get a bad impression of my family or my self. Lets face it, it is the internet and if someone wants to hack it for what ever reason, it is possible.

I have had a facebook profile for a while but up until recently have not accessed it much. Started checking up on some of my old HighSchool friends from way back in 1978. Quite interesting what they have been up to and where they are. Originally from South Africa (Republic of SA) many can now be found in th UK, Australia, New Zealand, the USA amongst others. One has to be careful what one makes public although I personally don't have anything to put on FB that might be an issue to my employer - At least I hope I don't. My boss is on FB but I have been a bit reluctant to add him as a friend up until this point :).

I've been facebooking for a while now.  I only accept people I personally know. So far on my list are people I have gone to school with, worked with, family, and a couple of ex-bosses :P
