Has anyone ever wondered "what has happened to my party of choice?" and "what happened to my vote?".  These are questions that are debated non stop in my area.  When I am asked about my party of choice, I usually reply that I "await" a better candidate than what is presently offered.  My friends say I have no respected to the parties because I often group these 2 entities into one: demopublican or republicrat.  Listen to their message, read between the lines and if you still have no answer, keep on looking.  I wanted to get feed back on what is going on with perception from party members or independents.  This topic of PSYCHPOLITICS, for what it is worth, should prompt a fire within those of you  who may subscribe to "reality is merely a perception".

"reality is merely a perception" First let me inform you that reality is an illusion and a very persistent one. The art of politics is to blow smoke up your ass and lead you to believe that if you think a certain way then you belong with us. I have a hard time believing that everyone has the same perception and really in fact has no clue as to what is really going on. If you want to believe then you are a follower, there is nothing wrong with that, vote with your heart.

Honestly to have respect for a party they should have done something to deserve that respect, can any one tell me from either side what anyone has done to deserve respect?

I don't want a party I want someone who will be honest and dependable and would be willing to do the job for free. That includes not accepting $150,00 wardrobes. or $500 haircuts. And Leaves religion out of Government.

Please this is a sticky, it is not that I think we should have no parties I think we should have more. There are still alot of gray areas to cover.

The great thing about America is you do not have to have a party to vote, you can choose who you want, and if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice.

Unfortunately, polictics is no longer anything more than a money game.  As much as we'd like to think that third parties matter, the fact is that if a candidate is not representing the Democratic or Republican party, then they don't stand a snowballs chance in hell of getting elected to any MAJOR office.

Typicly, a vote for a third party candidate actually counts as a vote for a Democrat simply because of the way it works out. That's how Clinton got elected when Perot ran as a third party candidate. That doesn't mean they count third party votes as Democrat, just that Democrats tend to show a lot more unity in general elections and rarely break from party lines. Republicans generally tend to be more independant in their thinking and if they don't like their candidate, are more likely to vote for a third party.

Those of us that are unaffiliated, tend to have a more difficult time making up our minds, and generally don't know who we'll vote for till we're actually in the booth.

Sadly, as I see it, it generally comes down to the choice of "Who will do the least amount of damage to our country?".

They should add a new option to all ballots. "None of the above". If none of the above wins, then ALL candidates for that office should be eliminated and the process begun from scratch. Seems to me, that would send a much clearer message to the criminals in politics we have to choose from now.

Hear, hear! Indeed politics is not only a money game with high stakes, dare I say, but also a very risky one, at least in the African sub-continent.

A plethora of parties abound.......choose one at your own peril. There is no implicit "undecided", or more appropriately "unaffiliated"; most people, generally the poor in the rural areas, will vote for "APP" i.e. Any Party in Power, or aka "The winning party". Why? How? Well, simple really, the crooks throw money into the air during their campaigns in these areas and... bingo! The rest as they say, is history.

Lives and limbs are lost  all for the sake of votes and ultimately power. "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts, absolutely". This sadly has been proven time and time again, with one military junta after another seizing power, under the oh, so arrogant  guise of ridding their countries of "vermin"! ha! And pigs can fly! Their arrogance beggars belief, it's almost laughable! What classic cases of the kettle calling the pot black....

I'd say you've got it good in the US, from where I'm standing. It may not be perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than "politricks" in the developing world.

I think I'd have to agree with you 3much. There are places in the world still where just having this sort of discussion could end you up in prison or dead.

True, true Phreadd. Zimbabwe, Burma or Myanmar, as it is now known, Pakistan etc. just to mention a few, are examples of countries where "politricking" is or has recently been very active, alive and kicking. Seeing that they are a necessary evil, I'm in favour of politicians coming with safety hazard labels or as we say in the IT world MSDS i.e. Material Safety Data Sheets, with terms such as the below:

1. Contaminable.

2. Tendency to perpetuate.

3. Chronic liars.

4. Thievery/Embezzlement/Appropriate (take your pick) - This is a given.

I'm sure there's more and will definitely update when they come to me lol
