The most comprehensive and complete set of office software (documents, spreadsheets, etc). It's OPEN SOURCE and completely FREE to use and supports all the other major formats (MS Office, etc). Much better than MS Office by any comparison.

This product enables everything a user needs with conventional documents, maintaining versions of them. It is multiplatform (Windows, Linux, Mac, Solaris, FreeBSD, etc.) and Multilanguage. Allows generate PDF documents by pressing a button. The interface is easy to handle. It allows easy integration with databases using JDBC. Recommended for multiplataform environments.

This suite includes excellent text-processing and spreadsheet applications. The presentation (OOorg Impress) application has its shortcomings, however. The price (free) and standards (ISO-approved, completely open, small file sizes) more than make up for this deficit.

I have used Microsoft Office, Works, all the Lotus programs. OpenOffice is great - it works very well, there is a lot of depth, there are a lot of plug-ins, and it is open and free. Try it - money back guarantee!

The free office suite that keeps getting better and better. I have been using OpenOffice since version 1.x. I also have used StarOffice, too (essentially OpenOffice with templates, graphics, etc.). It is the perfect solution when you need a powerful office application but do not want to spend hundreds of dollars per license. In my experience, OpenOffice can do everything MS Office can do with a few exceptions (e.g. Excel Macros). The biggest gripe has been a the lack of Personal Information Manager (PIM) like Outlook. It isn't an Outlook killer, but Mozilla Thunderbird using the Lightening extension will give most people what they need for a PIM - and it is free!

I'v had nothing but problems trying to do anything in Microsoft office. After trying Openoffice i'll never go back. besides being free, i can impor any WP document formate into it without even breathing hard. i have recently downloaded a variant called Oxygenoffice. it's Openoffice, but with a lot of extra features.
