Ubuntu is one of the most user friendly Linux distributions available, and I use it both at home and at work. And as everyone will tell you, the best thing about it is the price. It's free.

Great OS especially for PC hardware that's not cutting edge. I use it on my older PCs. Pretty stable OS and very easy to use and configure. The newest version (8.04) is much, much better and less buggy!

Great OS.. good for beginners but not as great for the advanced user as it is pretty restrictive by not allowing a user to log in as root.

i have been using ubuntu since version 6 and has been my Linux distro of preference since then. After struggling with Suse 9 (now openSuse) in my beginnings, Ubuntu came to the rescue. All I know about linux, it's because Ubuntu. Easy to start with, very friendly. The amazing community behind it already did all the hard work for you. It comes with automatic updates, a feature that makes it even easier to be on top of your distribution's patch. And there is a huge repository of FREE SOFTWARE that you can download and use free of charge. Today, I use dual booting with windows XP (just because I need Windows for some course in school) and I do all the programming in Linux. I have found a similar program for everything that I do in Windows. I love the powerful editor Bluefish, also Netbeans. OpenOffice.org is amazing as well...and the list goes on. I just can't be without Ubuntu now! Latest release 8.04 is even more powerful.
