Although I believe it was released a little too soon in development, its still a great OS. I have had very few problems with it, and the ones that I did were usually driver issues which were fixed within a couple months of purchasing it.

The good: Windows Vista Ultimate does improve some features within Windows XP; fewer system crashes than Windows XP; Windows Vista offers better built-in support options.
The bad: Windows Vista Ultimate does not put Search on the desktop (it's buried within applications, within the Start Menu); optimized only for the Microsoft Windows ecosystem (for example, RSS feeds from Internet Explorer 7 get preferential treatment); there's simply too much and not all of it is implemented properly; no new software yet written exclusively for Windows Vista; and there are too many editions of Windows Vista.
The bottom line: Windows Vista is essentially warmed-over Windows XP. If you're currently happy with Windows XP SP2, I see no compelling reason to upgrade. On the other hand, if you need a new computer right now, Windows Vista is stable enough for everyday use. Still feel the urge to have that Vista look on your pc? Theres plenty of mods available to transform your pc with simple auto-installs, hey...google around -

I love Vista's new OS System. But they need to fix all the bugs first. I had it once, but I downgraded.
This has never happend. But now when I want to go to the Control Panel, the taskbar wants to restart itself.

It's just like anything else. It just takes a little time to figure out where they put everything. Once you get used to the little ghost like images that pop up all the time the system really is easier to use. In my case, since I don't remember what the "ghosts" are called, easier is essential. I spend a lot of time with technical service reps from various places who seem anxious to help out with the troubleshooting. Obviously, this doesn't come up as often so they need the new experience, too.

I use Vista Ultimate at home. The GUI is very good but resource expensive. The price is pretty high for an OS. I got it for free but if I would pay for it, I think I will still get it. Overall, it is a very good all around OS (work, gaming, home entertainment, mobile).

Windows 7 may 'replace' Vista but this is still one of the best OS's I have worked with. The only BSOD I've gotten is because my video card was not updated. The advantage W7 will have is the background memory and power fixes that improve battery and memory usage.

I've had no problems at all with this operating system other than learning how it differs from XP. It has run flawlessly for me.

You couldn't give this Operating System to me! It looks really cool and has some neat features, but we had fun exploiting all the vulnerabilities in the classroom. No, no - I'll stick with XP; it's come a long way, after all.
