The President and Congress could help the country to recover. Just spend our money building Railroads, Highways, and Communication infrastructure. This would create real Jobs and stop the wasteful spending they’re doing now. I believe they could divide the USA into six or more commercial regions and create a central hub of warehouses in each region. Then build railway spurs to each hub. There would have to be train switching yards built at each hub. They would need to build interstate highways from the hubs to the major cities in each region.

Yes it is about time for the Government to start spending our money in the right places. Bail out the auto industry; no they just gave away our money! They, the auto industry, went bankrupt anyway. There is plenty of work that needs to be done on the roadways, railroads, bridges, and our dams are in need of major repairs. So call your US Representatives and US Senators and tell them that is where they need to spend our money. We ought to let them also know we’re tired of the wasteful spending they have been doing for so many years. The government is way too big it does not take that many people to run the government, if it is ran right.

Just creating the new railways for freight and passenger trains, the new interstate highways and the Regional warehouse hubs would create more than enough jobs to boost our economy. I would also keep the jobs here for the future because of the maintenance required to keep it up and running smooth.

This does not even account for the jobs needed to be created for building and maintaining our Data and Telecommunications industry.

What do you think, should we continue to give handouts to buy new cars and to bankrupting auto manufacturers and Insurance companies? It seems to me that the money would be better spent creating and maintaining our infrastructure here in the USA.

I agree up to a point - our infrastructure is in hideous shape. I don't agree that we need any MORE blacktop - we're swimming in the crap as it is. But what we do have desperately needs to be rebuilt the RIGHT way. Look at the way Rome did it. And while you're at it, find a cynical tight-wad like myself to oversee the whole thing so we don't have so much skimming, price-fixing and fraud.
In my not-in-the-least-bit-humble opinion, while we're rebuilding our roads, bridges, and railways - how about them odd little institutions that haven't had an overhaul since the 1940's? They're called "schools" - kids go there to learn stuff, or at least they used to.

Looks like sound reasoning to me.
