Cool Oddball Apps
Perhaps the coolest demo belonged to MooCow Music, who built an app called Band that simulated various instrumets, including a two-octave piano, drums, and a blues simiulator that apparently lets you play 12-bar blues all by yourself.
Modality and MiMvista both showed off medical apps. The first was a learnign application to help med sutdents learn anatomy flashcards. Drop a pin Google Maps style to pull up information on a specific body part. The latter lets doctors view CT and PET scan information remotely and mark up the results.
Lots of Web Integration
We’ll also see plenty of iPhone apps that bring completely new interfaces to Web data. The first up: auction powerhouse eBay. You’ll be able to track bids, search for items, and enter new bids all from your iPhone.
Baseball fans will be glad to see an iPhone version of its Gameday gamecasting app called At Bat. It’ll even stream video highlights
Loopt stepped up with a new location-based socail network that will be free once the App Store launches.
Bloggers will be psyched to see a free, iPhone-based interface for TypePad (and probably for almost every other popular blogging platform shortly). Typepad’s software let you post text and photos remotely, upload images directly from your iPhone’s camera, and preview your posts in Safari.
The Associated Press had an app called Mobile News Network that both plugs you into local news and photos and allows you to submit briewf reports or photos to the AP if you happen to be involved in a breakign news event.
Basic App Updates
Finally, the standard set of iPhone apps are getting a quick upgrade. Full support for iWork documents is now included. The calculator includes a scientific mode. Parental controls are now available, though it’s not clear eactly what type of content they cover.
A most-welcome update to Mail adds the ability to bulk move and delete messages. And that’s about it for iPhone software.
