No worries. I'm glad you're not stuck in that crap hole lol. Well Bloom is it's usual blah. This weekend is worse though. It's monster truck weekend so the town is packed full of riff raff. Ugh, I can't stand our already large amount of ignorant rednecks so you can only imagine how i feel today :o(

Ah cool, I haven't been in the direction but I knew someone who went to St. Joe's in high school.

Nice nice, I was actually born in Philly and lived there for 7-8 years before my family moved up into rural PA. What part of the suburbs you from? I lived in NE Philly - near the Tacony-Palmira Bridge.

Also I wouldn't be discouraged about finding a job right away in your field. Williamsport isn't the tech capital of the world and the few internships that are available in Central PA are pretty competitive and get filled right away. My advice is to go to the Job Fairs PCT offers every year (especially in your junior and senior years) and put in your resume to a bunch of people. There are a lot of companies out there looking to hire recent college grads. I have a friend in IBM who almost got me a job down in Fairfax, VA but I declined due to me moving out to Cali to be closer to my family. Chances are if you want to be successful in IT, you won't be living in Central PA. Most of the good entry-level jobs are near the bigger cities in the area - NYC, Philly, Pittsburgh, DC, etc.

Heh yeah in my opinion there are some really talented, hard-working professors at PCT and some real lazy, idiots with poor grading schemes. My fav. professor by far was Jeffrey Weaver for Cisco. He really tells it how it is (very personable) and his courses were always fun and interactive. My least fav. was probably Dr. Jacob Miller. Thankfully I didn't have to take him for my Senior project class and I had Dr. Das instead (although somewhat hard to understand, a really talented and intelligent educator imo).
No certifications thus far, I've been too busy outside of college (moving across country, getting my life situated) to focus on anything that requires me to read hundreds of pages for studying and spend hours on end in practice simulations. As soon as I move and get my job started with, I do plan on taking my A+ and Network+ certs from CompTIA. I chose these two because of the fact that they're lifelong certifications unlike the proprietary nature of the others such as MCSE/CCNA (which require you retaking a test every couple years) and it gives you a good fundamental background of verifiable "experience" outside of college to add to your resume. I recently purchased Exam Cram - A+, Network+ and I've had CCNA version for awhile but just haven't given it a shot yet. I was kind of intimidated by the 70% first time test-take fail rate and I wasn't in the position financially to dump 130-150 dollars in the toilet if I failed - thus I wanted to make sure I was really prepared.
I also recently purchased the LPIC-1 (Linux Professional Institute Certification - Entry level 1) to get some more Linux/Unix experience under my belt and have a certification to speak for since the industry is floating towards Linux/Open Source.
I've read conflicting statements on the importance of industry certifications so I am glad I haven't gone ahead and put the work into any particular one yet. From my experience so far, IT is so expansive that you just don't know what you'll end up doing/what position you're going to be filling after college, so I feel it's best to wait and/or focus on getting your foot in the door somewhere to build up experience in industry; which ultimately I think is more important than any pieces of paper. It is good to have that Bachelors tho, that really does open a lot of doors - experience or not.

Hey, I graduated from PCT in May 2007. So a year. Since then I worked at OneSource Staffing for 4 months doing system support for their electronic health record program. Afterwards, I had the opportunity to move to the bay area of Cali (dad's family resides here) and have recently accepted a job up in Mountain View - so I'll be moving up into San Jose in the next week. Busy busy busy. How about you ? How many more years do you have left?
