In response to your comment:
I can agree with you that sitting in front of a computer is not going to give you lessons in person to person etiquette. That is what childhood lessons are for, which brings me to a subject I could rant on for hours yet would be impolite. It just kills me to see the lack of attention & care given to some children these days, whether it be in the home or at school.
However there's nothing wrong with simply not using face to face skills when they are not needed.
What I think etiquette lessons face to face really lack is the ability to survive in a clique-lick atmosphere that you would not necessarily belong to by choice in the real world. This would most certainly have to include tolerance on both party's part, but doesn't often work that way in the real world.

I just had to comment on something you said regarding virtual chat which I thought was very typical of AMERICAN chat rooms, but not necessarily found in chats based in other countries.
you said- "Making virtual friends is nothing like meeting people in the real world. You don't walk up to some one and say A/S/L? in the real world. It doesn't work that way."
I currently chat on UKChatterbox, because I just couldn't take opening another american chat room, regardless of the title or supposed topic & finding only people wanting to cyber or repeating that damn phrase 'a/s/l?'. I've found most people actually have REAL conversations & NEVER use that disgusting chat phrase. I suggest you check your sources before you discredit something entirely.
