Hey Chris - I have a neighbor that is having all kinds of troubles with there pc. At one point they took it to circuit city - who told them that the operating system had something wrong with it so they reformatted the hard drive and then reinstalled the software. But they told them they could not up grade IE 6 to anything higher and they could not install SP3 because the computer start running erratically. So they have been running their computer with XP SP 1 and 2 but not SP3 and they are only using IE6. They have 200+GB hard drive but the ram is only 512mb. But when I pull up the computer properties it shows only 384MB of RAM. Not sure why that is. Do you have any idea?
Anyway, they had issues before that I had fixed about three months ago but the computer has come up with another issue. In IE6 when she goes to a website (for example "IL Child Support" Website) and clicks on a link within that website to go to another location within the same website, nothing happens and at the bottom left hand corner of the page it says "Error on Page".
Also, In the applications event viewer there are tons of error 4611 and 4609.
Not sure if these are even related. I looked up on the internet for explanation of the "Error on Page" and saw something that mentioned not enough bandwidth. One of my questions is, Does RAM effect Bandwidth?
The "Error on page" message is not just specific to one website. It happens on more then one. Another example is when she goes to a Job website and tries to run a search for jobs in our area, nothing happens and the "Error on Page" message appears in the bottom left hand corner. She just was unemployeed so it is important for her to be able to use her pc to look for jobs.
What are your thoughts on all of this. Do you think if I have them add RAM to the pc and then I reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS with all the service paks and install IE8 - Do you think that will help with any of the issues? I was thinking it would be the easiest thing to do because I have a feeling the registry and everything else is probably pretty screwed up and it might just be better to start over with a fresh install. What do you think? I would appreciate any ideas you may have. The PC is a HP Pavillion AMD Athlon 64 Processor 1.81GHz and 512MB RAM. It is about 5 years old. They can not afford a new pc for another 6 to 8 months and just want this one to hang in there until then.
PLEASE HELP ME.

Hey Chris - since you have been so much help to me in the past - well I have another issue that I wanted to run by you. Here is what I posted:
For some reason my computer will not shut down, restart, or log out when I try to from the start menu. I have to mannually shut my pc down. I have a Gateway 7310S. The last major thing I did was add a cd drive to the system. The drive works fine and everything else seems to be working fine. When ever I try to shut down or restart I get a log entry in the event log that says:
The attempt to reboot GATEWAY failed
I have googled for a solution but nothing seems to work. I ran driver detective and I do have some outdated drivers but when I try to download an updated RelTek audio driver - it downloads the file but when I press Setup.exe - it does nothing. I am not sure if this even has anything to do with the power down problem.
Anyone have any ideas?

Ok - If I use the cable and plug the additional cd/dvd into the slave plug, do I move the jumper on that drive to slave or to cable select?

Hi Christoph_Mion. You helped me with a problem last night but I have something else I would like to ask. I will just cut and paste what I put on one of the group boards:
I have a Dell Dimension 3000 ( I know it is old). I have had some problems with it lately and tried to fix them and decided the pc is not worth any more of my time since it is so old (5 years old) and only has a 40 harddrive. But I do want to take the CD/DVD drive out and put it in my Gateway 7310S. I took the cd/dvd drive out and it is a Toshiba Samsung CD-RW/DVD Drive TS-H492. Can I put this in my gateway as a second cd/dvd drive? And if I can, do I need to change the jumpers on the drive to slave? In the past I have tried not to mess with hardware but with the problems I have been having, it has forced me to dabble. I figured I could use some of the parts from the Dell and put them in my Gateway. But I kinda need help with directions. Like I said, I removed it and told you the kind it is. But not sure if I need to do anything besides just plug it in to the motherboard. Can anyone help this newbie?
