Avoid Vista

I think Microsoft Windows Vista is a great operating system. But then again I still think O.J. is innocent and Donald Trump’s hair is real.
So if you don’t agree with my view, stick with Windows XP for as long as you possibly can. We will all be forced to drink the Vista Kool-Aid after Jan. 1, 2008 when no one is allowed to sell Windows XP anymore. So buy up Windows XP computers now.
Delay getting Vista until the hardware really catches up. Just say no to non-functioning programs and incompatible devices! Microsoft will be releasing their first service pack to Vista in 2008 and that should make it ready for prime time. But you’ve got better things to do than monkey with an operating system that, for the time being, costs more than it returns.

I've had a Vista computer since last March. It's the only computer I have for home use, and I haven't had all the issues that people seem to have with it. Performance seems fine on this machine, though admittedly it came with Vista pre-installed, so I don't know if it would be better with XP instead. I also run VMWare pretty regularly and haven't had it blue screen on me even once.
I realize that I'm in the vast minority on this one, but I think it's good to know that at least someone hasn't been totally screwed over by Vista. :-)

I ran Vista for 6 months. I have a very fast machine, but I still got fed up with the performance. I switched back to XP yesterday after it blue screened vmware for the 5th time.

Me, too. Personally, I would never by any version of an MS OS before SP1. If I can wait until SP2, even better.
