Seven Things You Must Do in an Interview
Aileen Pincus | Business Week
When you are looking to make the Big Leap—the one that puts you closer to the power centers of a business or organization—the interview process will likely be different from what you’ve experienced before. The more senior the person or people you’re interviewing with, the more definite their ideas are likely to be about what they’re looking for. They know that their own continued success depends on hiring the best people.
So how do you prove your readiness for the big leagues? By thinking like a big-league player. This interview will be different from others, but it will be your best chance to impress the decisionmakers, so there are some key points you want to be certain you get across. Here are tips to help you succeed:

Kevin212...Lie, Lie, Lie. Any of these missing something falling short so called critical skills can be learned on the job in a few days. Fake it until up to speed. Certifications are obsolete months after you get one.

Useless Load of Touchy Feeley HR nonsense; here is how you REALLY get an IT job:
*Rewrite your resume to include each buzz word or software application in the job description.
*Claim experience in any language they ask about, regrdless of whether you have actually used it
*Babble about a few obscure advanced feature makes it seem like you know what you are doing.
*Deny being an American citizen so they can get you at the prevailing H1B minium wage
*Express a can do attitude even if scope creep and oversold software means it cannot be done
*Add 2 years to the years experience they want, regardless of whether the platform is that old.
*Lie, Lie, Lie! Sound convincing as IT managers and HR bafoons do not know new technology.
Welcome to IT!!!

All good points, though I find it difficult to predict, sometimes, what a manager is going to interpret as criticism. Sometimes someone else's accomplishments become the problems you have to solve. But that's the way things really work. Not sure where the fault lies there, (or who is really doing the whining). In my experience I find Evilution has it right, you're always best off just focusing on work you love. You wind up working with a much better class of employers.

I agree with Dane, I would take it one step further. If you're not an "outgoing" person, find something you feel you can be no matter what it is or how "nerdy" it may be, pay attention to how your able to simply communicate and express who you are and then apply that same "feel" and "attitude" to other areas, like maybe the interview }B-)

Good article. One key I would mention is that communication skills are paramont for every job out there today. There are many talented people who are not great at collaboration because of their week ability to express themselves, especially technical people. So prepare to act more outgoing then you may actually be. Practice communicating.

They are probably talking about the people who walk in and have the attitude I have have worked hard to get here and if you give this job to someone else they didn't earn it and I did. With the trial and error phase I told the interviewer I had great ideals that worked and no one else had the guts to even try.
