The 30 Best Cities for Tech Jobs
Albert Sun / Business Week
Tech geeks, take note: Silicon Valley is still the center of the technology universe, but if you’re thinking about a career in computing and want to avoid the Bay Area’s sky-high cost of living, consider another locale—say, Durham, N.C., or even Huntsville, Ala.
Flip through this slide show for a glimpse of the 30 cities boasting the most high-tech jobs per capita. The American Electronics Assn., a trade group, compiled statistics on 60 cities using Labor Dept. data from 2006, the most recent period for which it’s available. The slides rank cities by tech job density and include data on total jobs, growth in that total from 2005, average annual IT salary, ranking by salary, and biggest sector in each city.
Slides also include tech or health-care employers in the region, based on information from City-Data.com and other sources.

I recently reloacted to Sacramento, Ca. and just got hired with Verizon Wireless in tech support. I had already done some research on my own but great to see that Sac was in the top 30 great.

Very usefull article if the information is correct. I quess I am skeptical . However; San Jose/Silicon Valley would be common knowledge as a very good place to work in the technologhy industry.

The pic for Colorado Springs doesn't do it justice. That pic looks depressing as he!! Colorado Springs is quaint and has the same beautiful surroundings as the pic for Boulder.
Also, Pittsburgh isn't on this list, as it's not necessarily huge for tech yet. But it is growing massively. And you can actually afford to live there. And no, it doesn't look like it used to in the old photos of a filthy, grungy city. Though the downtown area needs hella work and becomes a ghost town at night, there are quite a few tech employers outside the city center. Very nice city to live in. Good people, growing economy. Bring your winter coat.

I live in Huntsville, and agree that there are a LOT of jobs here......however it doesn't mention several large corporations here, i.e. Boeing, Northrup Gruman, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Adtran, as well as MANY smaller companies that hire systems engineers and such.
Not to mention that BRAC is relocating many more jobs here in the next few years.

I know that there are good jobs in Dallas, Ft Worth and Austin. Are there any technology projections for Waco being right in the middle of DFW and Austin?
